NOJA Power Release Remote Firmware Upgrade Features for RC-10 and RC-15 Recloser Controllers

Switchgear manufacturing firm NOJA Power today confirm the release of a new software tool for remote firmware upgrade of their RC-10 and RC-15 controllers. With the growing number of NOJA Power OSM Reclosers in service worldwide, the remote firmware update tool allows users to upgrade their field devices to the latest feature set without travelling to site, saving utilities thousands in maintenance costs.

Through NOJA Power’s continuous functionality development, among the long list of new features in the RC-10 and RC-15 controllers are:

• Fault Locator
• Admittance Protection
• Advanced Earth Fault and SEF Polarisation for Directional Protection
• Four Access Level configuration for NOJA Power CMS
• Broken Conductor Protection ANSI 46 BC
• Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP)
• Provision of User Analogues and Logic Variables to IEC 61850 MMS and GOOSE functionality

Upgrades to the field devices are accomplished using NOJA Power’s Firmware Upgrade Utility software package. This standalone package is dedicated to ensuring all compatibilities are maintained between controller components during the upgrade process, simplifying the end user experience and providing reliable performance in the field.

The Firmware Upgrade Utility uses the same Engineering Access channel as available through NOJA Power’s CMS Software to connect to the remote relay devices to upgrade the remote controller. Security considerations are also taken care of by the RC-10, as the remote device verifies the authenticity of firmware prior to upgrades to ensure no vulnerabilities are introduced through the upgrade process.
